Meiji Village – Meiji Mura [明治村]
Meiji Mura [明治村] is an open-air historical museum / theme park located in Inuyama City [犬山市], Aichi prefecture.
It was opened on March 18, 1965.
Japanese architecture of the Meiji period
The museum displays various buildings from the Meiji Period [明治時代] (1868-1912).
Over 60 historical buildings have been moved and reconstructed, originally from all over Japan and places as Hawaii, Brazil or Seatle for preserving the Meiji period’s architecture and cultural heritage.
There are 10 buildings designated as important national cultural properties.
Meiji era was a period of rapid change in Japan. After centuries of isolation, Japan started to incorporate western ideas into architecture and construction techniques.
Thus modern Japanese style was established through this era.
How to get to Meiji Mura
From Nagoya station, take the Meitetsu Inuyama Line to Inuyama Station [犬山駅]
and transfer to a Meitetsu bus to Meiji Mura at last stop (20 minutes).
The bus stop is Number 2 from east exit at Inuyama station.
Adult one way 540 yen (train) + 410 yen (bus)
From Nagoya station to Inuyama station
23 mins – limited express [特急 / tokkyu]
35 mins – express [急行 / kyuko]
From Meitetsu bus station at the Nagoya station and Sakae oasis 21 bus terminal, take a direct bus to Meiji Mura.
Adult one way 850 yen.
Approx. 77 minutes – From Meitetsu Bus Center to Meiji Mura
